In 5th grade, students should be able to read silently for 30 sustained minutes without having to talk or get up. Some days they are reading a sustained time while other groups are meeting, so using body basics is important!

For Star Wars fans....May the 4th be with you.... :)

Today we talked more about Cinco De Mayo in Spanish class. It is not the same as Mexican Independance Day, which is Sept 16th! We also finished up our fun Math Brain Busters Packet. The class will be starting Unit 6 in Math next week.

Yearbooks will go home tomorrow. If you have not bought one yet, we still have many to sell. Just send $15 to school with your child after Thursday and they can stop by Mrs. Hamilton's room to get one. There will be some housed in the office, so if a parent comes to the office they can purchase one there as well. We are not giving out any free ones this year. Sales have been way down, so next year we are ordering a lot less, and need to get used to the idea of being unable to give out any for free. If you have any questions about ordering/paying for yearbooks and not getting one, please talk to Mrs. Hamilton.

Homework:

Other:
Get May Behavior sheet (stapled in agenda) signed. I had a few students who didn't get this signed and ended up getting their first initial for it!

I will not be coming back as of tomorrow. Mrs. Kearney will start a few days early...I have had a lot of labor signs this week, and my Dr. just wants me to come in tomorrow to kick start it a bit more. I will email photos to Mrs. Kearney to share and put them on my blog as soon as I can.

Happy first day of February! Today the kids had fun outside in the new snow. Just a reminder though-no snow fights at school! Today we continued watching part of a History Channel mini-series that was on last year: America, the Story of Us. It has really neat information and graphics about the Revolutionary War, so we are watching that.

Homework:

Science: Parents need to sign the pages that are done in the Sci. Fair-your children also need to to help them proofread and correct words. The pages that need to be signed are: Meet the Scientist, Question and Hypothesis, Materials, and Procedure. The first three were to be signed last week, only 4 out of my 31 students had them signed or initialed. Materials for their project need to be at school by next Tuesday. They can practice their project at home in the meantime if they want. Taking photos to use on their posters is a good idea.

Social Studies: Current event for tomorrow

Lang. Arts: we have started to study persuasion. I need examples of paper advertisements to use in class. Ads from newspapers, magazines, etc are needed. Please bring them in anytime starting tomorrow.

Spanish: practice speech

Homework:

Spanish: Practice speeches for someone at home.

Science: Make sure "Meet the Scientist", "Essential Question and Hypothesis", and "Materials" pages are done in your packet. Have a parent check them all over for Spelling etc-they can initial the pages they have checked. Start thinking of any materials that you will need to buy or find at home.
