We had a great time at Jump Rope for Heart this afternoon. Thanks Mrs. Plachetka for planning it for us, and thanks to any parents who were able to volunteer!

Thank you also to the families who came out last night to play Math games at our BDM Family Math Night. I was unable to be there, but I heard from Mrs. Hesselman that it went well! Congrats to Isaac Garvey who was a winner in the game raffle!

Today we had Guidance and Art. We also did some research in encyclopedias for our speech topics. We are writing a brief bibliography to go with their speech so students get used to that tool.

I only had 6 out of my 30 kids have their entire Science Fair Packet done and signed. That is pretty disappointing seeing that we have spent a lot of classtime working on them and I am always clear about what they need to finish at home. Please ask your child if their packet is done, and if not, please check it at home.

Homework:

Math: Test tomorrow-study practice test we took in our Math Journal.

Reading: Get poem signed.

Lang Arts: Get a book on your speech place if you can't find one at our library.

Sorry for the skipped post yesterday! Today we had indoor recess due to the cold temperatures. It looks like the temps will be rising over the next few days!

Homework:

Science: We are presenting our Science Fair in our classroom next Tuesday to 3rd and 4th grade classes. This means that students projects' need to be done by then, along with their poster. I will be grading them on Tuesday. I have given them a few lengthened work times this week. Thursday we will have another work time. If they do not finish their things then, they will have to work on it over the weekend.

The Science Fair is next Thursday evening. It is optional. I will be sending home a permission slip for it tomorrow to be signed and returned.

Lang. Arts: Your child has chosen a speech topic on "An Outstanding Place." Most of you saw their choice when you signed their packet. It would help if your child found some information at home or from the library outside of school. We will be going to our library etc to find information as well. We are doing research this week and next week.

I also still need any examples of advertisements (junk mail, magazine pages, coupons, internet ads). We will be using them next week, and the more we have, the better!!!!

Happy first day of February! Today the kids had fun outside in the new snow. Just a reminder though-no snow fights at school! Today we continued watching part of a History Channel mini-series that was on last year: America, the Story of Us. It has really neat information and graphics about the Revolutionary War, so we are watching that.

Homework:

Science: Parents need to sign the pages that are done in the Sci. Fair-your children also need to to help them proofread and correct words. The pages that need to be signed are: Meet the Scientist, Question and Hypothesis, Materials, and Procedure. The first three were to be signed last week, only 4 out of my 31 students had them signed or initialed. Materials for their project need to be at school by next Tuesday. They can practice their project at home in the meantime if they want. Taking photos to use on their posters is a good idea.
