Today we got to talk aabout what we all did over our Thanksgiving vacation! The class worked hard today-and got to have an extra recess that they earned through bookadventure.com.

Tommorrow is our incentive-bring a board or card game and a snack to eat.

November 24th

Today we tried to finish up a lot of projects before the Thankgiving break. We also took the Unit 2 Math test. I will be getting that home to be signed after break.

I will not be sending home a Thursday Fridge Note for this week. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Homework:

Wednesday is a half day and a PJ day for our class. There is no homework over the long weekend!

November 18th

Today we went on a field trip to a microscope lab at UW-Fox Valley. Professor Dubear was nice enough to volunteer his time to our class for an hour. Students got to look at slides underneath compund microscopes and also use disection microscopes to see things like a tarantula and a crab. I will post pictures and videos soon!

Reading: finish your group book by Monday

Science: bring any materials you want to use for your cell's organelle

November 17th

Today the class worked hard on their "What I'm thankful For" essays. We are also trying to finish our Reading books so we can do a book report on them next week.

Tomorrow is our field trip to the UW-Fox Valley microscope lab. We will be leaving around 12:45 and getting back to school around 2:15. If you are interested in coming, you can either come ont he bus, or meet us there.

Spelling: Study words for test on Thursday.

Social Studies: Current event article due tomorrow

November 16th

Today we had a longer Math and got caught up from the lessons we missed due to WKCE testing. Tonight students should study pages 73 and 74 in their Math Activity Books to get ready for a quiz tomorrow. We are looking forward to our field trip coming up on Wednesday to the microscope lab at the UW-Center. We also get to walk to the High School on Friday to see an hour of their musical "Suessical."

Homework:

Math: Make sure you are done with HWK and Remem. 2.4 Study pages 73 and 74 in Activity book for our quiz tomorrow.

Reading: finish your book by the end of this week. We will be doing a template book report on the books this time.

November 13th

Sorry it took so long for this post-I tried to do it from school at the end of the day, and the computers weren't cooperating!

This weekend the only homework is for students to sing the Spanish "Happy Birthday Song" to an adult and teach it to them. Ask them what the words mean. Then sign the song sheet so we know they helped you!

We read to our kindergarten pals today. I will post some pictures soon!

November 12th

Today we finished up our WKCE testing!!!! We also spent some time in the computer lab looking up information about plant and animals cells and their organelles. We have conferences tonight so check your child's agenda or my Thursday Fridge Note to see if you have one tonight.

Homework:

Spelling: finish worksheet if you didn't last night.

Reading: Most kids got to read their pages in class today when they were done testing. Just make sure you are caught up. Page numbers are in the Thursday Fridge Note

I am taking a week off of popcorn money because I have been having problems with ending up without the correct number of bags even after I counted them after they were delivered. Next week we will try it again.

November 11th

The class was very attentive when my dad came to speak. They enjoyed his slideshow and asked him very good questions.

11-10-09

Today we took the last Reading portion of the WKCE and started on the Math. Tomorrow bring in any Veterans Day Oral Histories to share during current events. You also need to bring in a note card with at least two possible questions to ask my dad when he comes in tomorrow to talk about his service in the military.

Happy Birthday Andrea! Thanks for the treats! Today we met with our kindergarten pals and made turkey hats. They are really cute! We also watched a movie about Arlington Cemetary in preparation for Veterans Day. It was really interesting to learn more about it.

Novevmber 4th

We did the Reading session 3 WKCE test today. We will finish up one more Reading session and then the Math ones next week. I have extended the book order due date to November 13th. If you would like to order online follow the link at the right. For each book that is ordered online we get a free book for our class library!

We don't have school on Monday. Tuesday will be a special gum day in our class. Students have been going on the book adventure site and filling out quizzes about books they've read. Then they use these points to get rewards. If you haven't been to this site yet, check it out. I will bring in a tub of gum for the kids, but they are welcome to bring their own. The rule is that they can only chew the gum in my classroom.

November 4th

Today we took both session 1 and session 2 of the Reading portion of the WKCE. We will be finishing session 3 tomorrow and then next week we will finish the Math sessions. The students are being very quiet during testing. I have been reminding them to eat a good breakfast and get enough sleep to help them focus. They can also bring a good luck charm with them if it helps :)
We also continued to work with our microscopes today. Students got to look at various kinds of animal hair/fur/feathers at all three objectives(magnification levels). It was interesting!

November 3rd

Today we finished taking the practice test for the WKCE. We went over the answers and talked about startegies for doing your best. A few things to do at home would be to get enough sleep and to eat a good breakfast. We will be starting our testing tomorrow.

Day of the Dead at Menasha HS

November 2nd

Today our class walked to the high school to see the Day of the Dead altars. It was really interesting. Some of the favorite altars were Michael Jackson, Steve Irwin, and Martin Luther King Jr. I will post pictures that I took there tonight on the blog. We also saw the paper flowers that we made in class used in a pretend cemetary. We also took a practice test to prepare for the WKCE test that we are going to start later this week. Our Junior Achievement person came into our class today. She will be working with our class for 45 min each week for 6 weeks. The cool thing is that it is my sister, so it is a lot of fun for both myself and the class.

Homework:

Reading: Because we didn't have our reading groups today, read your pages at home.

Spelling: We do not have spelling lists this week because of the WKCE testing

Science: Study your microscope sheet for the correct terms. There will be a quiz on Friday.
