April 30, 2009

Since today is the last day of April, we had our incentive. The students had an extra hour long recess. Unfortunately, it was raining outside so the students had the option to go into Mrs. Hesselman's classroom or stay in our classroom. Students in our classroom were able to listen to music, watch TV, play games, or talk with their friends.

Homework:

Spelling: Study for test!

Math: Study for quiz - look at MB 9.6 problem 1. Remember you will also be asked to draw a shape or two. Be prepared to hand in your Study Link packet.

Science: Sign and return Science Fair slip, bring in any supplies for your project.

Spanish: Finish making flashcards - cut note card in half, glue question on one side, and glue the answer on the other side. These are due on Monday!

Other: Book orders are due on May 7, bring popcorn money tomorrow, and get Talent Show slips signed.

April 30, 2009

Today was our last day working with Randy Peterson. The lyrics of our song were finished yesterday so we were able to practice our song today. We also recorded the song so Mr. Peterson can put it onto a CD. Remember, tomorrow night is the concert! Doors open at 5:30 and students will be called around 5:50 to get ready to present their songs.

Homework:

Spelling: Study words - test is Friday.

Science: Get slip signed for night time Science Fair. Gather any supplies you need for your project.

Math: SL and MB 9.6.

Reading: Answer one question for reading response #2 for the book Holes.

Other: Book orders are due 5/7, bring music and recorders for music class, and full band is tomorrow!

April 29, 2009

We had another fun day today. It was our second day of our Holes unit for reading. Today we read one chapter so we have completed chapters 1-7. We had a discussion and took an easy quiz! :) The students seem to enjoy reading this book.

Homework:

Math: Study Link 9.5

Reading: Reading Response #1, pg. 5 of your Holes folder

Spanish: Extra Credit crossword puzzle

Other: Book orders are due May 7, bring in money for Papa Murphey coupons, and band lessons

April 27, 2009

Today was an exciting day! It was our first day with Randy Peterson. All three 5th grade classrooms joined together and began to write a song. Our song is all about 5th grade - who we are, privileges we have, and what we are wondering about next year. It was a fun hour! We are looking forward to finishing our song tomorrow and practicing it with Mr. Peterson.

Homework:

Reading: Read chapters 5 and 6 in Holes. Fill in the character table and be prepared for a short quiz tomorrow!

Spanish: Finish crossword puzzle

Other: Book orders are due on May 7th, bring recorders and music for music class.

Reminder: Spring Celebration is this Thursday, April 30 from 5:30-7:30. The 5th graders will be performing their song they are working on with Mr. Peterson.

April 24th

Today we had Art, Junior Achievement, and a substitute at the end of the day while Mrs. Tegge was at a meeting.

Homework:

Guidance: Finish the sheets with your parents and bring to school by Monday.

Music: Practice recorders

Other: Sign the May Responsibility Contract and return by Monday or you will get an initial. Our April incentive is next Thursday (an extra long recess)

April 23rd

Today we had gym and music, a make-up Guidance class, full band, and a tornado drill! Whew!!!!

Homework:

Math: Studylink 9.3-was due today. Get it done if you didn't!!! Studylink packets will be collected by Miss Baumgartner on Friday!

Guidance: Parents need to help fill out papers for our career education unit. Bring back tommorrow or Monday so it will not get lost! Remember you will be rewarded if you do your job!!!

Other: popcorn $, $8 if you want an extra t-shirt (only in size larges) Book order due May 7th

Today we went on our field trip to 1,000 Islands Nature Center. I will put pictures from the trip on the blog and in my Thursday newsletter tomorrow.

Today we had a few visitors! Miss Baugartner's supervisor came to watch her teach her first Math lesson. She did great!!! Then Mrs. Tegge suprised everyone with a visit from Scott, the man in the Army that we have written letters to while he has been stationed in Iraq. Scott showed us pictures and answered questions. I will post some pictures tomorrow!

Homework:

Math: Studylink 9.3 is due Thursday

Other: tomorrow is our field trip to 1,000 Islands. Please dress for the weather and wear grubby clothes. Bring a bag lunch and be on time to school!

April 20th

Today was career day-it went very well! The students got to see many different examples of careers that they might be interested in someday. Thanks to all the parents who came!!! You all did a wonderful job!

Homework:

Other: Bring recorders to music class tomorrow.
Get a parent to sign teh note sheet you took during today's speakers and bring back to class on Tuesday.

April 8th

Today we had the middle school Math teachers come and give a Math test to students. Then we hid paper Easter eggs in our room and in the courtyard. Our kindergarten pals then found them all! We did some fun spring sheets with them and finally went outside for an extra recess to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Homework:

Spelling: Study for test tomorrow

Social Studies: Finish your map or timeline project for tomorrow.

Math: Study #4 on pg 300 of your Math journal for the quiz tomorrow. Do Studylink 9.2 for tomorrow.

Other: 1/2 day tomorrow!!!!

Today was a Friday schedule, so we had Art and chorus. The 5th graders also saw the Easter Bunny at lunchtime!

April 6th

This morning the class walked to the Post Office to send our business letters in the mail. I told students to bring in any responses they might recieve in the mail in the coming weeks. We also started Unit 10 in Math, started in new teams with a new seating chart, and started working on a Social Studies project about the English Colonies. Our 5th grade T-Shirts came in today and were passed out. When we have our Track Meet in May all students can wear them so we look like a team! Then later in May, if they get permission, students may sign each other's shirts.

Homework:

Reading: Bring in your last Fang this week.

Spelling: Study the fun list made by Miss Baumgartner.

Spanish: Do worksheet-copy the Spanish in cursive. This will be 2 initials on the incentive card if it is missing.

Other: 1,000 Islands $ and slip (I sent home new slips with those that I am still missing), if you could not afford to purchase a t-shirt, please write me a note and I will get y our child one of our donated ones. Thanks again to the parents who gave extra money for these shirts.

April 3rd

Today was Mariah's last day with us!!! We will miss you Mariah. She is moving back to the school in Appleton that she was at before she came to BDM. Good luck!!!

Look for the note that was stapled in your child's agenda about the short walking trip we are taking on Monday, April 6th.

Other: Turn in last Fang on Monday, Note for taking Megavolt for Spring Break due Monday, 1,000 Island note and $4 due on Monday.

April 2

Today in Spanish class we found out that only three students in the entire class remembered to put periods at the end of each of their sentences where they write the date each day in class. YIKES! Remember to put periods at the end of sentences, even if you are writing in Spanish!!!
We also had our incentive today-open gym time.

Homework:

Reading: 20 minutes for Fang-Fang due Monday

Spelling: Study for test, finish cursive sentences, DC finish workbook

Social Studies: pg 208 in green text, questions 1-5. Was due yesterday.

Math: have your parents sign your Math test.

Other: Popcorn $, 1,000 Island trip $ and slip due Monday, Book order due tomorrow!

April 1

Today we had a bit of fun with April Fool's Day. I taped desks shut and switched around som folders in people's desks. I videotaped some of the fun and put it on my blog. We also had a special computer time with Mr. Staehler and we had a Character Assembly. Ashely S. and Austin both got awards for being compassionate! Congratulations!

Homework:

Spelling: Study

Reading: Read 20 minutes for Fang. Hand in your last Fang by Monday.

Social Studies: Do questions 1-5 on Page 208 in your green Social Studies book. Use the book to help you answer the questions.
