11-30-10

Today we presented our Reading projects. Most students were finished. Each student got the chance to "grade" 8 of the projects. I will be compiling a list of these comments and sending them home in a week or so to get signed. We had a lot of absent students today, so it will take a few days to get it all done.

Speaking of absent students, I reminded the kids today how important hand washing, coughing into sleeves, and wiping desks at the end of the day is to prevent the spread of germs.

Homework:

Spelling: Write 5 of your words in cursive sentences for tomorrow.

Social Studies: Current events due tomorrow.

Math: Homework 3.1 (not remembering)

Other:
Snowpants, mittens, hats, and boots need to be at school every day now.

I am still in need of tan burlap. 2 yards will do just fine.

I have enough ice cream lids, but please continue to send them in all year, I like to stockpile them! Thanks to all parents who have donated yarn, beads, ice cream tops, etc to me so far! I really appreciate it!!!

Book orders due Friday. If you go online, there are three tabs to look through book orders. If you click on the third tab and scroll down to the Holiday Gift Books, that is one of them. The other 2 are under the arrow and lucky tabs. Remember, books make great gifts! :)

Sorry for no post yesterday! It was a crazy day filled with meetings for me and an assembly for the students.

Today we had a little difficulty with current events. I had 7 kids not have them. For those 7 I am sending home notes to be signed by parents. Current events are every Tuesday night, so it should not be a surprise.

We continued with our Science group presentations today. The kids have a lot of information about their cell organelles. I am hoping to finish up this unit by next week.

I have a list of craft supplies that I need for Dec. on my Fridge Note from last week. I am still in need of these things. I will put it on the Fridge Note tomorrow. One thing I really need are the covers to ice cream buckets. I have 16 and I need at least 32. Please send them in if you are able.

11-15-10

Today we got a Thanksgiving Spelling list because next week is too short to do it :). We talked about what the word "cornucopia" means. We found out that in latin Cornu means "horn" and copia means "plenty". That is where we get the term "horn of plenty." The cornucopia comes from greek mythology, but today it symbolizes Thanksgiving and the harvest. I found a video on the web showing how to make a cornucopia for decoration. I am going to try to get it on the blog.

Homework:

Spelling: finish 11 cursive sentences. Have an adult help you check them over. You must do the corrections by erasing and correcting, NO PEN! Adults can help you, but should not write on your paper. Then have the adult sign the sentences.

Reading: finish your book.

Science: presentations about organelles are tomorrow-be ready!

This afternoon my dad, Mr. Neebel, came to talk about his time in the Vietnam War. He had to bring in his old slide projector because I couldn't find the nice DVD I made a year ago....but it was neat for the kids to see an "old fashioned" machine :). Ask your kids one thing they learned from his presentation.

We also had Mrs. Eickelberg come for Junior Achievement. She has one class left to teach us. It was a busy day!!

Remember, if you are a veteran, or know a veteran who could come, come to our Veterans Day Assembly tomorrow in the commons from 9-9:30.

Your child needs to finish their rough draft of their letter to a Veteran this weekend. We talked about the format in class and had time to work on the opening, the first and second paragraphs. That leaves the third paragraph, and a quick closing. In all, the letter will be 5 short paragraphs.
