January 21st

Today we talked about the advertising techniques of testamonial and bandwagon. A testimonial is when a celebrity or expert endorses a product. I bet you will see one of these on TV tonight! Bandwagon is when the ad makes you feel like you are the only one who doesn't have the product yet and you want to join in. In computer lab today the students started to make their own advertisement for a fictional product using some of the advertising techniques we have learned about.

Pictures From the Bake Sale

January 20th

Today we talked about the advertising techniques of Name Calling and Glittering Generalities. Name calling is when one product "bad mouths" another to convince you to buy theirs. We watched a bunch of the mc vs. pc commercials online because they are a great example of name calling. Glittering Generalities are when a prduct uses general positive words that really don't mean much such as "pure and natural."

Also-our final money count for our bake sale fundraiser was $330! Thanks to all of you who donated items or money to the cause!

Homework:

January 19th

Today we talked about two advertising techniques. One is loaded words. This is when an advertisement uses words that make you think about feelings etc-for example, "family", "secure", "free". Then we talked about transference. This involves using images or phrases that make you think a certain way. Maybe a logo with a crown on it makes you think it is better since it reminds you of a king or a queen. Look for these techniques in commercials when you watch TV tonight.
