It was nice to see a lot of our class last night at the BDM Open House! I am really excited to see you all next Tuesday! Remind your parents aabout the Hand in Hand parent orientation that is on Friday, September 11th. If you were at school yesterday I probably gave you a pamphlet about it. There are specific times for each grade where your parents can come to do an activity with you in the classroom and then spend a bit of time listening to me talk about 5th grade.

Welcome! During the year I update this blog each day with homework-so you never have an excuse for late homework if you have internet access :)

I will be seeing you at open house night , next Thursday, August 27th from 4-6 pm. You can bring your supplies to drop off, choose your locker and desk, and see other students who will be in your class!

I usually have a class pet rat but my latest rat, Megavolt, passed away a few days ago at the ripe old age of three-that is old for a rat! I will not be getting a new pet rat right away this year. We will see what happens with that...

I hope everybody is having a great summer! I am enjoying not having to run around like a crazyperson like I do when I am teaching during the year!

June 2nd

Today we worked more on our brain teasers in Math. We will finish up this packet tomorrow. We also got a copy of the photos that Scott Metko, our Iraq soldier penpal, showed us last month. His brother put the photos to music and burned a copy for each student. We watched it in class, and it is really neat! Ask your child to share it with your family!

Tomorrow afternoon my class will be helping me run the talent show dress rehearsal. It will be a good lesson on how much work goes into putting on a show!

Homework:

Writing: Finish up your letter to a 4th grader-it needs to have one sentence as an intro, then three paragraphs, each about a different thing that happens in 5th grade, and a sentence as a closing. We had about twenty minutes in class to work on this. Tomorrow we will be revising them.

Other: bring any items for the talent show-instruments, sheet music, costumes etc.....

Today we had our Holes party! Thank you to all of our students who brought in snacks to share with the class! After lunch we had time for silent reading and then we watched the movie. During the movie we wrote down any differences or similarities between the book and movie. After the movie we took a quick recess to enjoy the beautiful day! When we came back in we discussed the differences and similarities we found.

Homework:

This week is a busy week! The Talent Show Dress Rehearsal is on Wednesday afternoon - be prepared to to do your skit. The actualy show is on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Also, a reminder that our Tundra Lodge field trip is this FRIDAY!!!

May 28th

Today our golf trip was cacncelled due to the wet ground. We are going tomorrow afternoon at noon instead. Our class watched the semi-finals of the National Spelling Bee today. Watch the finals at 7pm on ABC.

Homework:

Spelling: Fill out the spelling bee sheet for extra credit.

Other:
5th grade graduation- at 9:30 tomorrow-parents can come at 9:15 and sign in at the office. Students should dress up and then bring other clothes to change into for the golf trip. I will have extra yearbooks for sale at the graduation.

Golf trip- leaving at noon, bring extra clothes and sunscreen for faces and arms.
