May 24th

Today was really hot in our room....ugh! We did go to the computer lab for an hour to enter in a online Math test, so we did get air conditioning for that time!!! When it gets really hot in our school I try to take breaks in the lab or the band room which are both air conditioned.

Please have your child bring an extra duffle bag or garbage bag to school tomorrow. We will be cleaning desks and lockers as much as possible, just leaving the basics for the rest of the year. All library books are due Thursday, so if you see any at home that belong to BDM, please send them in. I am handing out slips telling the kids what they have out or overdue today.

May 20th

We had our field trip to Maplewood Middle School this morning. It went very well. The kids had a tour of the school, had a question and answer session with Maplewood students, and then took a short computer reading test in the lab. Tomorrow we will be walking to th e high school at 1:00 with our kindergarten pals to see a car show put on by Mr. Hansen at the Middle School.

Homework:

Language Arts: 4 signatures on the speech practice sheet due tomorrow. Some of the students are giving their speeches tomorrow, check the schedule that I handed out yesterday.

May 19th

Today we had the track meet! It was very warm and sunny. Some kids did not wear sunscreen, so they might be a little burnt....

Lang Arts: Practice speech-your practice sheet is due on Friday with all four signatures. I sent home the schedule with the students today.

RSVPs for 5th grade graduation are due

May 17th

Today we made our speech schedule. Some students opted to give theirs this Friday. I will send home the schedule tommorrow. We will be giving them on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. The sheet stapled in their agendas has to be signed with comments 4 times before Friday when it is to be turned in.

Homework:

Lang. Arts: Practice speech and have an adult sign the sheet and put comments. The sheet is due Friday.

May 13th

Today we got to hear a sneal preview of the Band's Concert. Good luck at your concert tonight!!!!

Math: Make sure the first two pages of 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication are done to hand in tomorrow.

May 11th

Today we had an all school assembly with a man who did some really neat tricks, including jumping his bike over mr. Spielbauer, Mrs. Hesselman, and Mr. Gillespie! His message was to stay safe while riding a bike, stay healthy by not doing drugs, and work hard to achieve your goals.

Homework:

Math: Finish the first page of 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication in our packet. Correct any ones that are incorrect-you can use a calculator to check them. Show your work!

Reading: Bring in any copies of Holes that you might have from home.

Today we had Raymond Blum "Professor Numbers" come to do some Math tricks for us. I have added his website to our links on the blog.

May 4th

Today we watched the old Shirley Temple version of the Little Princess. There were quite a few differences between the book and the movie. We might also be watching the more recent version to see if that is more similar to the book.

We are going on our april incentive tomorrow. Bring a bag lunch with you. If your parents are chaperones, they should arrive with you at school by 8:15. If you are not going on the incentive, you will be staying back with Mrs. Hesselman.

Reading: If you have any copies of the book Holes, please bring them in to school.

Social Studies: no current events tonight.

May 3rd

Today we worked on a craft project, finished the book The Little Princess and did more research in the computer lab for our speeches and We Didn't Start the Fire song.

Homework:

Reading: We will be watching the Little Princess movie tomorrow in class. If you want to bring a treat and drink for yourself, or to share with the class, go right ahead!

Extra yearbooks are on sale for $15-I have them in my room.
NO chorus concert tonight-it is now on May 24th.
