March 31st

It is the last day of March, and we only have a half day left tomorrow before spring break!!! Today we had free choice in Art class. Then we spent some time outside practicing for our book talks since it was such nice weather!

Homework:

Writing: Over break try to get a book or print off information from the internet about your speech person. We will start our research after break.

Reading: Book talk information should be on note cards. We will be doing these after break, so make sure you practice at least one time over break.

Guidance: If you have either candyland or chutes and ladders at your house, bring it for our Pals lesson tomorrow. Mrs. Hess is in need of a few more. Make sure it is labeled with your name so you get the correct one back.

Other: I put three new book orders online. Just go to www.scholastic.com and use teggek, teggek for the username and password. I will have these orders open until April 16th. I will also send home a paper copy of the order tomorrow. I only send one home, but online I have three to choose from. We get free books for every order online. If you do order them by sending it to me at school, please only send checks made out to Scholastic.

OARS trip April 12th, have any donations for the animals here by Monday the 12th.

March 30th

Today was a Friday schedule, so many students had full band. We also had our March incentive today-we went to see the movie Chipmunks the Squeakel at the theater close to school.

Homework:

Social Studies: Current Events for tomorrow

Reading: we need 4 more stamped envelopes!!!! Thanks for everybody who has brought them in so far!

Speech:Students chose their important person in US history to do their speech on. Feel free to get any books or print out things from the internet about your person. We will be starting to do work on research after break.

Other: OARS donations can be brought to school now, or on Monday April 12th

March 25th

Today we had out pizza party thanks to Talaysha-I will post pictures soon! Today we typed our business letters in the computer lab. We are also continuing to take weather data every day. We are lucky to also be able to tweet to Jeff Last, a NOAA weather guy who can answer our questions. Our class twitter site can be accessed by using the username and password of "mrstegge".

Homework:

Reading: students wrote a haiku poem in class today that they can read to you and get signed.

Math: Homework and remembering 5.13 due tomorrow

Science: Bring in an example of a weather tool for tomorrow's Science class. If you don't have one, print out a picture from the computer, draw one, or find one in a catalog and bring that in.

Other:
$5 for our movie theater field trip due Monday-write me a note if you cannot afford it.
OARS slip-if you do not have one, just write a note saying your child can go on Monday April 12th.

Thursday Pizza Party!!!

Because Talaysha won the poster contest for the food service at our school, we get a pizza party in our room this Thursday!!! We will be eating in our room at our normal time during lunch recess and lunch.

March 23rd

Today the kids took a Math test to see what type of Math class they will be in when they enter Maplewood. If your child does very well on the test, you will be contacted at some time do you can help to decide what class would be the best for them next year.

Tomorrow I will be testing everyone in reading. I will have a substitute in the room while I do this. I expect good behavior from everybody! I will not be posting on my blog tomorrow because of this.

Homework:

Spelling: study-I did NOT send home sentence corrections today!

Math: finish fun packet for bonus.

Reading: bring in Book Talk book if you didn't already bring it in

Social Studies: Current events tomorrow

March 22nd

Today we started our Weather Unit by doing some weather trivia. We are also starting to work on our book talks and studying biographies.

Homework:

Reading: Students are choosing a book that they have already read to do their book talk on. Many students are going to bring their own copy from home. Please bring these to school on Tuesday.

Math: have an adult help you figure out the brain teasers that stumped us in class today.

Writing: bring in a stamped business envelope.

Revolutionary War

March 18th

Today the band students went to the high school to practice for their Band-A-Rama. This concert is tonight at 7pm at the high school. It was also nice to see some students "dressing their best" for today's March Madness day. Tomorrow is beach day. Students can wear shorts etc, but need to have pants to put over the shorts for recess. No spaghetti strap shirts are allowed, this is also the dress code for the middle school, so we want them to get used to it!

Homework:

Reading: bring in your last fang tomorrow. You will get your ticket voucher sometime in the next few weeks.

Lang. Arts: Read poem to someone and get it signed.

Other: T-shirt designs due tomorrow. I will do the voting on Monday.
Spanish is due Friday-they have been working on writing about their families in class. If they didn't finish, they have to take it home tonight.
Spring Carnival is Friday from 5-8:30

March 16th

Today I was able to get our Revolutionary War presentation on the blog, so enjoy! Tomorrow is Green Day in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Homework:

Spelling: Study words and do corrections on your sentences.

Math: Homework and Remembering 5.11. The addition and subtraction problems on Remembering have to be rewritten in their Math notebook and then write the answers onto the Remembering page. I will be checking their notebooks tomorrow. We are working on doing work in a notebook neatly so a teacher can see what you are thinking.

Social Studies: Current Event due tomorrow

March 15th

Today I found out that our class gets to go on a walking field trip to the OARS adoption center in Neenah the Monday after our Spring Break! I will be sending a note home soon with more information. I will be making a list of any supplies OARS needs if you want to send any donations. Our class wrote persuasive essays telling why people should adopt some of the animals at OARS.

We also finished our big project on the Revolutionary War. I will try to post it on the blog if I can!

March 12th

Today the outdoor rules changed. You only need boots if you are going off the blacktop because of all of the water. Other than that winter items are no longer needed. A long sleeved sweatshirt or jacket is still required.

Math: 1-8 on Homework 5.9 due Monday , Show your work in your Math notebook!

March 11th

Today we watched a video about the raising of the Hunley, a Civil War submarine. We got interested in this as a class when we found out that there was a submarine used in the Revolutionary War. We also got to watch a performance of the Opera For the Young. Alex S. from our class was a part of it! Nice work!

Talaysha also won an award for her drawing entry in the food service's contest. That means that our class gets a pizza party! I will keep you posted about when it will be.
