The class having fun

November 26th

Whew! I am tired! I told the class they must be very lucky to get so many rewards in one day. This morning we did our work on sleeping bags. This afternoon we played some video games, had pizza, and then had ice cream! I don't think I've ever done so many rewards at once!!! Thanks for all of the donated supplies for the ice cream sundae bar!

Homework:

Have a great Thanksgiving with your families!

The only work would be if a child did not write their three paragraph I wonder paper. That is due Monday or there will be detentions. It can be typed or hand written. Many students finished this in class.

Holiday book order due Dec. 8th

November 25th

Happy Birthday to Alex Hoppe! He brought in a yummy choclate cake to share with the class. Today we had a handwashing talk (ask you kids about it!), our November incentive (open gym), and community lunchbox.

Tomorrow is our reward day for winning the UNICEF competition. Please bring in supplies for our ice cream treat if you signed up. I have received many items already. I also had reward money to buy the class 5 pizzas to share at lunchtime in my room. Please send a drink for them and any other lunch food if they think they will need any extra.

Also-we have a dress up PJ Day and they can bring a stuffed animal, sleeping bag, pillow, whatever. I will be bringing in my wii and Playstation for kids to play during a block of time in the afternoon. I told the class they could bring handheld games if they want-if their parents say yes. They can only take them out in my room. If they take them out on the bus or in line up, they might be confiscated.

Busy day tomorrow!

Homework:

NONE-enjoy the Appleton parade tonight if you can-it is at 6:00- downtown Appleton.

Today we made some gingerbread people as a class for next week's Deck the Halls at BDM. Tomorrow and Wed. my class will be rotating to the other 5th grade classrooms to make two other crafts. We also had a lockdown drill in the afternoon so we know what to do if we ever have an intruder.

Homework:

Lang. Arts: finish "I Wonder" packet. Some students are in the process of typing them-I will give them more time tomorrow.

Finish a letter to a soldier. I will be sending them to a soldier I know in Iraq. I am hoping they can be paired with a soldier to have as a pen pal. They were supposed to introduce themselves in this letter and ask questions that a solider could answer.

Social Studies: Map Packet pages 277, 281, 282 We worked on them in class today, but some students have to finish.

Other: PJ/sleeping bag day on Wed.
Bring handheld video games on Wed. if you get permission from parents.
Snowpants/Boots

An announcement was made last week by Mr. Gillespie that when snow covers the ground students would need snow pants, boots, hats, mittens to play at recess. Some student today claimed that "I didn't look outside this morning." Anyway, please make sure your child has these items to wear to school when snow covers the ground. If you can't afford these items, please let Mrs. Hess know-she usually has funds for this

We also talked about what "warm fuzzies" look like and sound like.

We did get to go to the computer lab to look up some information on the topics. We will go to the library tomorrow to find some information from books in the library.

Now that it is getting cold, please make sure yoru child has a winter jacket. There were three kids today with only sweatshirts. If the weather is in the 30s, they should have a winter jacket, hat, and gloves/mittens.

Today we finished our WKCE testing! It was a long week, but we made it through!!! Mr. Mitchell came to share his Marines uniform-it was very interesting!

Our class found out today that we won the UNICEf competition that we had going on with the other 5th grade classes! We raised $317 total, and our class raised $145 of that! I will be sending in the donation today. The money goes to help children around the world with vaccinations, schooling, and clean water. We voted on a reward day and I sent home the note about that today.

Social Studies: We made a paper globe in class today. If students didn't finish it, they will finish it at home this weekend. I also checked their Map Packets. All students have to get their packet signed on the front so I know parents saw it. If your child is missing pages, have them finish them. They are listed on the front of the packet.
